PROFILE

Kevin McHugh is an American jazz pianist, composer/arranger and accordionist from Seattle, USA. He studied jazz piano and German language at Oberlin College and Conservatory, the oldest music school in the United States, as well as in Germany at the Technische Universität Berlin. In 2006, Kevin won a year-long Watson Fellowship and used this large grant to study improvisation in 5 countries. From 2007 - 2009 Kevin lived in New York City and San Francisco, but spent considerable time touring the US and Europe, as well as the Tony award winning theater group The San Francisco Mime Troupe. In 2011 he was chosen to compose music for theater and film projects supporting the Tohoku earthquake survivors, thanks to a grant from the Japan Foundation. He is a recipient of a 2015 Seattle 4Culture award to lead a collaborative project between Japanese and US musicians.

Kevin is a long term resident of Tokyo, and continues his involvement in diverse musical styles, and has played in the major jazz clubs and hotels in Tokyo. He also plays accordion, improvised theater, and works as a musical director.  He has performed on NHK "Songs" and recorded as a leader, composer and arranger for many groups and record labels, including CASIO and S2S Japan.  Kevin has played both piano and accordion for fashion, party and entertainment events around Japan involving top international and domestic clients such as Louis Vuitton, Prada, Disney, Goldman Sachs, Toyota, NHK, United Airlines, AEON, and more.

ケビン・ マキュー

1982年アメリカ合衆国ワシントン州シアトル生まれ。ピアニスト・アコーディオン奏者。アメリカ合衆国で最も古い歴史をもつ音楽学校、オバーリン音楽院と、ドイツのベルリン工科大学でジャズピアノとドイツ語を学ぶ。2006年にトマス・Ｊ・ワトソン研究奨学金を獲得し、一年間に渡り5カ国で即興音楽の研究をした。

2011年、国際交流基金からの助成を受け、東日本大震災復興支援のための演劇および短編映画作品に楽曲を提供。また、最近では、日米の音楽家を結びつけるプロジェクトSeattle Meets Tokyo: Modern Jazz Connectionsの主宰者として、2015年のSeattle4Culture賞を受賞した。

東京在住13年目の現在も、マキューは多種多様なジャンルに渡って音楽活動を続けている。プロのジャズピアニストとして東京の著名なジャズクラブやホテルで演奏をしているだけでなく、アコーディオン奏者としての活動や、即興演劇の劇伴やクラシック、ロック等の演奏もする。また、NHKのテレビ番組「SONGS」やCASIO、ヤマハの鍵盤楽器のプロモーション映像への出演、S2Sジャパンを始めとするレーベルや様々なバンドのレコーディングに、バンドマスター・作曲家・編曲家として携わっている。

また、ルイ ヴィトン、プラダ、ディズニー、ゴールドマン サックス、トヨタ、NHK、エクソン モービル、ユナイテッドエアライン、AEONを始めとする国内外の有名ブランド、メーカー、会社などが主催となり、日本各地で開催されたファッション、パーティー、エンタータインメント関係のイベントにピアニスト、時にはアコーディオン奏者として出演するなど幅広く活躍中。
